Trentar, the technology and infrastructure arm of Dorf Ketal Chemicals, is planning a Rs 30,000 crore investment to develop a 500 MW green integrated hyperscale data centre park in Maharashtra.
The project is expected to be developed in phases, with construction likely to start in 2028 and commercial operations targeted for 2029-30. The company is currently in talks with the Maharashtra government and may sign a memorandum of understanding soon.
Trentar is assessing multiple locations across Maharashtra and expects to complete the land evaluation process within about a month. The state government is expected to support the project by coordinating permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives under applicable policies and regulations.
The planned facility is expected to source at least 51% of its energy requirements from renewable sources. Trentar is also examining options for treated-water reuse and water-efficient cooling systems. The final technologies will be selected after detailed design and feasibility studies.
Phased Development and Funding
Rather than developing the entire data centre park at once, Trentar plans to add capacity through multiple phases. This approach will allow the company to scale the facility progressively based on requirements.
The company is also in discussions with several private equity investors and an investor consortium to finance the project.
Trentar aims to build the park as an integrated infrastructure platform combining energy storage, power systems, resource management, water treatment and digital technologies.
Its energy business, Nayam Energy, has investments across battery energy storage systems, UPS systems, inverters, generators and backup power solutions. Trentar Water focuses on water-treatment solutions.
The company has further strengthened its water infrastructure capabilities through the acquisition of Nuove Energie, which operates in Italy and the US and provides advanced filtration technologies for municipal and industrial wastewater and sludge.
