Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Limited (MIL) to integrate, manufacture domestically and supply its established 155 mm artillery course correction fuzes (CCF), along with related components, subsystems and technologies.

The collaboration marks a step forward in Sigma’s efforts to strengthen India’s indigenous capabilities in precision-guided artillery ammunition. It builds on the company’s existing defence programmes and engineering expertise, while aiming to support critical programmes of the Indian military through the development, integration and localisation of advanced defence technologies.

The partnership combines Sigma’s Indian engineering expertise, indigenous technology and programme execution capabilities with MIL’s established ammunition manufacturing infrastructure. The initiative also supports the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, with a focus on building domestic capabilities in strategically important defence technologies.

Building Indigenous Next-Generation Artillery Capabilities

Course correction technology enables artillery projectiles to make in-flight trajectory adjustments, helping improve accuracy and operational effectiveness. Developing indigenous capabilities in this segment represents an important opportunity to strengthen India’s defence technology ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported solutions.

Through this collaboration, Sigma aims to facilitate technology transfer, qualification, local manufacturing and integration of advanced course correction solutions in India. The programme will leverage on the Course Correction Guidance Kit, a mature solution currently used by international customers, as part of the technology collaboration.

For Sigma, the initiative extends its ambition to move further up the defence value chain, from precision engineering and sub-systems manufacturing towards the development and integration of advanced defence systems. It also creates a platform to combine international technology expertise with Indian manufacturing and engineering capabilities to address the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.

“The collaboration with Munitions India Limited marks an important step in advancing indigenous precision-guided artillery capabilities in India. By bringing proven course correction guidance technology with MIL’s established ammunition manufacturing capabilities and Sigma’s engineering and programme execution strengths, we aim to build meaningful domestic capabilities in a strategically important defence segment. This initiative reflects our commitment to going beyond localisation towards developing a stronger indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. We see this collaboration as an opportunity to contribute to the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces while strengthening India’s position as a centre for advanced defence manufacturing.” said, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO, Sigma Advanced Systems Limited.

Supporting Critical Military Programmes

The collaboration is aimed to create capabilities that can contribute to the requirements of India’s defence establishment, including supply to ongoing critical military programmes. Munitions India Limited, one of India’s largest defence public sector enterprises, brings extensive experience in ammunition and explosives manufacturing, established production infrastructure and longstanding engagement with the Indian Armed Forces. Its capabilities provide an important foundation for the indigenous manufacture and integration of advanced artillery technologies.

By combining these complementary strengths, the partnership aims to develop a domestic industrial and engineering framework for next-generation course correction solutions, while creating opportunities for the progressive enhancement of indigenous content, technical expertise and manufacturing capability.
