TAMK, Tampere University and Fastems Unite for Manufacturing Innovation

Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), Tampere University and Fastems signed a partnership agreement on June 4, 2026, bringing together the universities’ strengths in education, research and development with Fastems’ industrial expertise.

Under the new three-party agreement, TAMK joins the existing partnership between Tampere University and Fastems. The collaboration aims to advance solutions for the manufacturing industry and strengthen expertise in digitalization, automation and intelligent manufacturing.

“This is the first tripartite agreement our higher education community has signed with a company. Through this partnership, Fastems will gain access to the joint offering and broader expertise of our universities,” say Mika Hannula, President of TAMK, and Keijo Hämäläinen, President of Tampere University.

“For Fastems, collaboration with Tampere Universities has long been built on a productive and successful partnership, and this new agreement further strengthens that foundation. Together, we can develop the expertise and solutions needed for the factories of the future — environments that call for new skills and new ways of thinking,” says Mikko Nyman, CEO of Fastems.

The partnership spans several areas of cooperation, including:

  • joint research and development initiatives,
  • educational collaboration such as courses, open studies, tailored training and student projects, and
  • the use and further development of the shared learning, research and innovation environment, the FMS Training Center.

A central goal of the partnership is to deepen collaboration between industry and higher education while supporting the renewal of working life, industrial development and competence building. The agreement also creates new opportunities for students, research and innovation activities.

The partnership agreement between Tampere Universities and Fastems has been established for a five-year term. It is based on jointly agreed operating models, and the collaboration will be guided by annual action plans that further define its implementation.
