Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will mark the delivery of its 2,000th aero-engine from the Koraput division in Odisha on October 6, 2026. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the milestone event, which marks nearly six decades of HAL Koraput’s contribution to India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities.

The event will also highlight the establishment of a second production line for Shakti engines, involving an investment of ₹218 crore. The additional production capacity will support the growing requirements of indigenous helicopter platforms, including the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter.

The expansion is part of efforts to strengthen India’s domestic aero-engine manufacturing capabilities, an area considered strategically important because of the technological complexity of aircraft propulsion systems.

The development aligns with the government’s broader focus on building indigenous capabilities across the defence manufacturing sector and increasing India’s role as a designer, developer and manufacturer of defence systems.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar and HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K, among others, are expected to attend the event.
