The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has initiated preliminary work for a proposed facility at its High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Pashan, Pune, focused on technology development for next-generation armament and missile systems.
DRDO’s Directorate of Civil Works and Estates has issued a tender seeking engineering consultancy services for site surveying and soil investigation for the proposed facility, identified as the “Technology for High Energy and Allied Materials for New Generation Armament and Missile System (THEAM NGARMS)”.
The consultancy will assess the site and underlying soil conditions to support future civil and structural design, including determining site levels and foundation requirements.
HEMRL is DRDO’s specialised laboratory for high-energy materials and related technologies used in weapons and propulsion applications. Its work includes energetic materials, explosives, propellants and associated technologies supporting India’s missile and weapon programmes.
The proposed facility is expected to expand infrastructure for research into advanced materials for future armament and missile systems. The current tender, however, is limited to engineering consultancy, site survey and soil investigation and does not disclose details of any specific missile or weapon system, production quantities or development timelines.
The site and geotechnical studies represent an early infrastructure step, with detailed civil design and construction expected to follow after the site requirements are established.
