Daimler India Tamil Nadu investment adds to the state commercial vehicle base. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the manufacturer of BharatBenz trucks and buses, has outlined an additional investment of around ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu as part of a non-binding facilitation MoU with the state government.

The proposed investment would take DICV’s cumulative investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore. The funds are planned for BharatBenz product development, manufacturing, research and development, infrastructure and future technology capabilities. The investment is expected to create around 400 jobs over the proposed period.
Since its market launch in 2012, BharatBenz has put more than 220,000 trucks and buses on Indian roads, serving customers across freight movement, construction, mining, logistics and passenger mobility.

Torsten Schmidt, Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the next phase of growth in India’s commercial vehicle market.
The proposed investment is also intended to strengthen product development, manufacturing capabilities, localisation and service readiness to address changing market requirements.
