Tungaloy Expands TetraMini-Cut Series with High-Precision CBN Inserts

Tungaloy Corporation has expanded its TetraMini-Cut series with the introduction of new high-precision CBN inserts featuring an insert width tolerance of ±0.01 mm. The new inserts are designed to deliver improved dimensional stability and superior surface finish in grooving applications for hardened steel components.

Hardened steel is widely used in automotive and machinery components due to its wear resistance and strength. However, the increasing demand for higher precision in grooving operations has created challenges for manufacturers using conventional CBN inserts, which typically offer cutting width accuracy of around ±0.02–0.05 mm. This often leads to dimensional variation and inconsistent surface finish quality.

According to the company, these limitations frequently require secondary corrections or additional processing, increasing both production costs and the burden on manufacturing efficiency. The newly introduced inserts aim to address these challenges by enabling more stable dimensional accuracy and improved surface finish quality in hardened steel machining applications.

Benefits and Features

Feature 1: High-Precision Grooving with ±0.01 mm Width Tolerance

  • The high-precision design with a ±0.01 mm width tolerance ensures stable groove dimensional accuracy.
  • Minimizes variation between products and improves reproducibility of finishing accuracy.
  • Ideal for precision component machining that requires highly accurate grooving.

Feature 2: Stable Machining with High-Rigidity TetraMini-Cut Structure

  • The unique clamping structure enhances insert holding rigidity.
  • Suppresses chatter and dimensional fluctuation during cutting, ensuring consistent machining quality.
  • Delivers high reliability even with small tools, supporting long-term continuous operation.

Feature 3: Excellent Wear and Chipping Resistance with BX360 Grade

  • Adopts CBN grade BX360, optimized for grooving hardened steel.
  • Achieves long tool life even on high-hardness materials, reducing tool change frequency.
  • Maintains stable surface quality through a well-balanced combination of wear and chipping resistance.

Feature 4: Custom-Order Inserts with Special Widths

  • In addition to the standard lineup, custom-width inserts are available on request.
  • Flexibly accommodates diverse machining requirements and provides optimal groove shapes.
  • Contributes to improved productivity and process optimization for users.
