Mitsubishi Electric India has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, Mohali, to provide engineering students with practical training in industrial automation and Industry 4.0 technologies.

Established in collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric India’s Factory Automation & Industrial Division, the centre will offer specialised learning modules alongside the academic curriculum. It is the company’s first Centre of Excellence of this type in North India.

The facility features training systems for programmable logic controllers (PLC), human-machine interfaces (HMI), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), AC servo systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs). It also covers industrial robotics, collaborative robots, computer numerical control (CNC) and other Factory Automation and Industry 4.0 technologies.

The CoE was inaugurated by Atsushi Takase, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Electric India, along with representatives from the company and CGC Landran. Parampal Singh Dhillon, Vice Chairman, CGC Landran, Campus Director Dr Rajdeep Singh and senior academic representatives also attended the inauguration.

Takase said the centre would strengthen industry-academia collaboration by giving students an opportunity to work with technologies used in modern industrial environments. He also highlighted the importance of practical learning and continuous skill development as technology adoption advances.

CGC Landran said the facility would help students connect academic concepts with industrial applications and gain hands-on exposure to industry-standard automation systems.

Mitsubishi Electric India will train CGC Landran faculty members on the equipment and technologies installed at the centre. This will enable faculty to incorporate practical industrial applications into teaching and provide continued technical training to students.

The initiative comes as Indian manufacturers increasingly adopt automation, robotics and digital technologies across production environments. Exposure to PLCs, robotics, CNC systems and other automation platforms can help engineering students develop familiarity with technologies used in modern manufacturing operations.
