GEE Ltd, a manufacturer of welding consumables and welding solutions, has received approval from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), enabling the company to participate in India’s highly regulated nuclear power supply chain.
The approval comes as the government plans to expand India’s nuclear power capacity from 8.8 GW at present to 22.5 GW by 2031 and 100 GW by 2047. According to the company, this is expected to create a long-term growth opportunity for certified suppliers.
The approval strengthens GEE Ltd’s position in India’s specialised nuclear power value chain and aligns with its strategy of expanding its presence across high-value industrial sectors.
India Targets 100 GW Nuclear Capacity by 2047
Press Trust of India recent report states that, India has set its sights on a significantly larger role for nuclear energy in its overall power mix. The Government has announced the Nuclear Energy Mission, outlined in the Union Budget 2025–26, with the aim of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power generation capacity by 2047. The mission also supports India’s broader goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
The report also states that, India’s energy demands are growing rapidly and its clean energy commitments are firm. Nuclear power is a base load source of electricity available round the clock, with lifecycle emissions comparable to renewables such as hydro and wind. It is uniquely placed to meet the always-on power needs of data centres, advanced industries, and emerging technologies. Scaling nuclear capacity is therefore not just a strategic choice but a practical necessity for India’s long-term energy security and clean power transition.
GEE Sees Growth Opportunity in India’s Nuclear Sector
GEE said NPCIL’s stringent technical, quality and safety standards place it among a select group of qualified domestic suppliers, creating a significant barrier to entry and reducing exposure to low-cost competition.
The company added that nuclear projects typically involve large capital investments, milestone-based payments and multi-year execution cycles, providing long-term revenue visibility.
Umesh Agrawal, Joint Managing Director, GEE Ltd, said, “Receiving NPCIL approval marks an important milestone in GEE’s growth journey. It reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, reliability and manufacturing excellence.”
He added that the company looks forward to supporting India’s nuclear power programme by supplying specialised welding consumables and engineering solutions for critical nuclear power applications while expanding its presence in high-value industrial sectors.
