Greenleaf Introduces a New End Mill Line for Milling of HRSAs

Greenleaf Corporation has recently launched Capstone™-360, a new series of high-performance end mills that combine a ceramic cutting tip with a carbide shank. This innovative design delivers the speed and efficiency of solid ceramic end mills while enhancing strength, stability, and tool life through the carbide shank. Engineered for demanding machining operations such as slotting, pocketing, and face milling, Capstone™-360 offers exceptional performance in Heat-Resistant Super Alloys (HRSA), Cast Iron, and Hardened Steel.

Capstone™-360 sets a new benchmark for productivity, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in the aerospace, oil & gas, power generation, and medical industries. In real-world applications, customers have achieved up to a 90% reduction in cycle time and 70% reduction in cost per part compared to standard solid carbide end mills.

“The introduction of Capstone™-360 is a testament to Greenleaf’s commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance tooling solutions that deliver value for our customers,” says Bernie McConnell, Executive Vice President – Commercial at Greenleaf Corporation. “By combining advanced materials with cutting-edge design, we have developed an end mill line that enhances productivity, extends tool life, and provides greater value across a wide range of applications. Capstone™-360 represents a significant step forward, providing our customers with a powerful solution to maximize efficiency and extend tool life in demanding applications.”

Unique Features & Benefits of Capstone™-360:

  • Optimized value and high performance – Delivers an exceptional balance of productivity and tool life, maximizing total value.
  • Lower heat generation – The unique combination of geometry and chemistry optimized for Ni-base HRSAs results in lower cutting forces and significantly less heat generation even at speeds as high as 2600 SFM (800m/min), improving dimensional tolerances and tool retention, and reducing spindle wear.
  • Necked shank for additional clearance – All tools feature a necked shank that allows access to cavities and facilitates programming in shoulder milling while maintaining rigidity.
  • Versatility – Capstone™-360 performs well at a wide range of cutting speeds in HRSAs, and offers similar cycle time and cost reduction benefits in most face-milling applications in hardened steel and cast iron.
