Streamline Steelwork with Gemini Laser

Ficep UK has introduced its most advanced gantry CNC system yet – the Gemini Laser. This first-of-its-kind machine merges high-power fibre laser cutting with precision machining in one automated platform, delivering a breakthrough solution for structural steel fabricators and civil engineering projects.

For manufacturers handling large and heavy plates—especially in infrastructure, bridge building, and energy projects—the Gemini Laser boosts productivity by minimizing material movement, shortening cycle times, and removing the need for secondary operations. Its combined thermal and mechanical processing capabilities make it a powerful tool where precision, speed, and flexibility are essential.

An evolution of Ficep’s original Gemini system, the new laser model features fiber laser sources up to 30 kW, with higher options available for demanding tasks. It processes mild and stainless steel plates up to 60 mm thick and replaces multiple machines, helping fabricators save space and streamline operations.

The Gemini Laser features a heavy-duty cutting gantry that guides the laser head for high-precision cutting. An optional 45-degree bevel head enables the creation of internal bevelled holes and weld preparations—V, Y, X, and K—directly on plate edges. For additional flexibility, its 7,000 RPM spindle with automatic tool changers supports drilling, tapping, countersinking, and milling with tight tolerances.

Engineered for demanding tasks, the machine’s rigid gantry and precision-ground helical racks reduce deflection during heavy-duty machining. The system uses laser-based plate referencing, with automatic rotation handled by the nesting software. Integrated clamps ensure secure plate positioning, and an optional robotic unloading system enhances automation and supports Industry 4.0 workflows.

Chris Berriman, Ficep UK sales director, says: “The Gemini Laser redefines what is possible in plate processing. By integrating high-power cutting and multi-process machining within a single system, it’s a game-changer for UK fabricators working on bridges, stadiums, offshore structures and other large-scale civil engineering projects. This combination of thermal and mechanical processing delivers exceptional efficiency, accuracy and flexibility.”

The Gemini Laser is supported by Ficep UK’s technical team, providing expert installation, training and after-sales service across the UK.
