Schneider Electric to Strengthen Industrial Skills Training in Tamil Nadu

Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF) has partnered with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish 70 advanced skill training centres across government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), aimed at equipping young people with technical skills in electrical engineering, energy technology and industrial automation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the first 30 centres in Chennai on 28 October 2026 at the Government ITI in Guindy. The initiative aims to create skill development opportunities for approximately 25,000 young people across the state.

During the inauguration, SEIF and the Tamil Nadu government also exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up the remaining 40 centres. The Directorate of Employment and Training, Government of Tamil Nadu, will oversee the implementation of the partnership.

The centres will provide advanced infrastructure for vocational training in energy technology and industrial automation, with programmes aligned with evolving industry requirements. The initiative will also include instructor training across all 70 participating ITIs to strengthen teaching capabilities and ensure effective use of the new facilities.

The partnership aims to bridge the gap between conventional technical education and changing industrial skill requirements by providing students with practical, employment-oriented training. It is also expected to improve access to specialised technical education and prepare young people for emerging opportunities in energy technology and industrial automation.

Commenting on the initiative, Deepak Sharma, Zone President, Greater India, Managing Director and CEO, Schneider Electric India, said that industry-government collaboration is essential for building a future-ready workforce. He highlighted the importance of strengthening vocational training infrastructure and instructor capabilities to align technical education with evolving industry needs.

The initiative is expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s vocational education ecosystem while supporting workforce development in sectors linked to energy technology and industrial growth.
