OPmobility, Maruti Suzuki and its parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, have inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana, dedicated to the production of energy storage systems. The facility is the second plant operated by the joint venture in northern India and is expected to support the expansion of Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing operations in the region.
Located in one of northern India’s growing automotive hubs, the new plant will manufacture complete energy systems, including fuel tanks. Its annual production capacity is expected to reach one million fuel tanks by 2031.
The facility is expected to strengthen the joint venture’s ability to support Maruti Suzuki’s growth in northern India. It will also contribute to OPmobility’s target of doubling its revenue in India by 2030.
OPmobility has been operating in India since 2007 and currently has six manufacturing plants and four R&D centres in the country. According to the company, more than one in three vehicles in India is equipped with its products. OPmobility ranks first in the Indian fuel tank segment and third in bumpers.
The new facility marks another step in the company’s expansion in India’s automotive sector, strengthening its manufacturing presence and supporting the growing requirements of vehicle manufacturers.
Félicie Burelle, Chief Executive Officer of OPmobility, said: “The opening of our new Kharkhoda plant is a major milestone in our long-standing partnership with Maruti Suzuki and a further step in OPmobility’s development in India. With strong economic growth, an expanding automotive market and significant potential for increased vehicle ownership, India offers considerable opportunities. Building on our partnerships with Indian and international automakers, we aim to double our revenue in the country by 2030. India is central to OPmobility’s diversification strategy, contributing to a broader geographic footprint and a more diversified customer base.”
