CIMCO Brings Simulation Integration to Autodesk Fusion

CIMCO has announced a new integration for Autodesk Fusion® that brings CIMCO’s simulation capabilities directly into the Fusion environment, enabling users to move from CAM programming to simulation without recreating the setup.

The integration introduces dedicated ribbon buttons within Fusion, allowing users to launch different CIMCO simulation modules based on their requirements. Users can run an internal simulation using CIMCO Edit Verify or launch the external CIMCO Edit Professional for full NC code simulation in either Backplot or Machine Simulation modes.

With CIMCO Edit Verify, toolpaths are read directly from Fusion CAM operations. Since the data is sourced directly from Fusion, the simulation loads quickly and reflects the current programming status. This enables users to verify operations during program creation, monitor material removal, and identify potential collisions during the programming process.

Final NC Code Verification with CIMCO Edit Professional

For the final verification, the integration allows you to export your Fusion setup and launch CIMCO Edit Professional to simulate the posted NC code. In this workflow, the NC code is read and simulated using the actual machine control selected in CIMCO Edit, such as Fanuc or Heidenhain. This means there is no need for special machine simulation post processors, and the simulation reflects what will actually run on the machine. The user can also edit the NC code and immediately see the result in the simulation.

With the integration functionality, we transfer the full Fusion setup into CIMCO Edit, including tool assemblies, stock, fixtures, workpieces and work offsets. This ensures that the simulation environment matches the CAM setup and removes the need for manual configuration.

Shared Machine Simulation Setup

Machine simulation is supported in both workflows when CIMCO Edit is installed. The integration uses CIMCO Edit Professional machine configurations and can launch machine simulation directly inside Fusion. This allows both internal simulation and NC code simulation to run on the same machine setup, making it easier to move between the two without changing configuration.

Currently, the integration supports milling operations, including 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machines. Additional machine types available in CIMCO Edit, such as turning and more advanced configurations, will be supported as Fusion’s internal simulation capabilities are extended.

With this integration, CIMCO connects Fusion directly to CIMCO’s simulation tools, making it possible to go from program creation to verification using the same data and setup throughout the process.
