India and Poland are working towards strengthening their bilateral economic relations, with a focus on expanding trade, investment and industrial cooperation amid ongoing efforts to implement the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada held a meeting with Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ignacy Niemczycki in Warsaw on Tuesday to discuss opportunities for deeper economic engagement. Prasada said both countries were moving decisively towards strengthening their economic partnership, adding that bilateral relations had gained momentum under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two countries were entering a new phase of cooperation, with discussions covering several strategic sectors, including space, shipbuilding, mining, defence and digitalisation. The two sides also discussed a potential space agreement, new flight connections through LOT Polish Airlines and support for the EU-India FTA.
The meeting follows Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s recent visit to New Delhi and Bengaluru. During his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, both leaders set a target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.
The leaders also called for the early signing, ratification and implementation of the India-EU FTA to create new opportunities for trade and investment, strengthen critical supply chains and improve access to markets.
Prime Minister Modi invited Polish companies to expand their investments and operations in India, highlighting the country’s large domestic market, skilled workforce and growing manufacturing and innovation ecosystem.
Tusk, in turn, acknowledged Indian investments in Poland and highlighted the country’s potential as a gateway for Indian businesses seeking to expand into Central and Eastern Europe and the wider European market.
Both countries also agreed to strengthen agricultural cooperation by resuming the activities of their bilateral working group to promote trade and collaboration in the sector.
