Merck Life Science is investing approximately €13 million to expand its manufacturing capabilities at its Jigani site in Bengaluru, strengthening its supply of critical materials to customers across India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The expansion will add biological buffer manufacturing to the facility’s existing chemistry capabilities. The new production capacity will support customers across research, diagnostics, biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
The investment is part of Merck Life Science’s “in-region, for-region” approach, which focuses on developing manufacturing capabilities closer to the markets and customers it serves. The addition of biological buffer production will broaden the Jigani site’s capabilities and strengthen the company’s regional supply infrastructure.
Merck Life Science said the expansion reflects the contribution of its teams and collaboration with government and industry stakeholders. The company acknowledged support from India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the German Embassy New Delhi and Invest India.
The investment comes as India’s pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics and biomanufacturing sectors continue to expand, driving demand for reliable regional access to materials used in research and manufacturing.
The Bengaluru expansion will further strengthen Merck Life Science’s manufacturing footprint in the Asia-Pacific region and its regionalised supply network.
