Chinese energy storage systems manufacturer Sigenergy plans to invest an initial $250 million in India to establish manufacturing facilities for inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS), according to a Reuters report.

The company plans to begin with an inverter manufacturing plant, which is expected to become operational by the second quarter of 2027. Sigenergy is currently exploring potential locations for the facility, Rahul Morde, head of sales for Sigenergy India, told Reuters on the sidelines of the Renewable Energy India Expo.

The company will subsequently establish a battery energy storage systems manufacturing facility, which is expected to start operations six to eight months after the inverter plant. Sigenergy also plans to set up a research and development centre in India focused on battery energy storage systems.

The company has begun operations in India earlier this year and is seeking the necessary investment clearances. It has also complied with India’s regulations on domestic data storage, Morde said.

The investment comes as India looks to expand renewable energy capacity and grid-scale energy storage to support its clean energy targets. Sigenergy develops battery storage products, inverters and energy management software for residential and commercial applications.

The company made its debut on the Hong Kong stock market in April 2026 after raising HK$4.4 billion (approximately $562 million) through an initial public offering.
