The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has inaugurated new testing infrastructure and announced industry collaborations during its Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Pune, strengthening India’s automotive testing and validation capabilities.
Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, virtually inaugurated the Advanced Battery Laboratory and the Advanced Two-Dynamometer E-Axle and EV Powertrain Test Facility.
Developed with an investment of approximately ₹55 crore, the Advanced Battery Laboratory will support battery testing, safety assessment, certification and export compliance for electric and hybrid vehicles. The facility is expected to strengthen testing capabilities for India’s growing electric mobility sector.
During the celebrations, ARAI also exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India for the transfer of a land parcel to develop an Advanced Crash Test Facility (ACTF). The proposed facility will further expand India’s automotive safety testing infrastructure.
Commenting on the developments, Prasan Firodia, Vice President, ARAI Governing Council, highlighted the importance of collaboration among industry stakeholders in advancing sustainable and low-carbon mobility, emerging technologies and next-generation transportation systems.
The new facilities and industry partnership mark a step towards strengthening India’s automotive research, testing and certification ecosystem, particularly in electric mobility and vehicle safety.
